Résumé
As we navigate the multiple, and intersecting pandemics of COVID-19, white supremacy, the climate crisis, and the economic crisis (Ladson-Billings, 2021), in addition to events such as waves of denunciations of assault sexual, how do we prepare pre-service teachers for the institution of schooling? This session explores traditional discourses in teacher education that we must resist, centers knowledges and knowledge systems that have long been silenced and imagines future possibilities for schooling as sites of collective struggle and radical transformation. Drawing on anti-oppressive and anti-racist frameworks, this session focuses on the importance of self-reflexivity, bold, critical action, and pedagogical practices that view schools as sites of collective struggle and radical transformation. These are foundational and lifelong skills for pre-service teachers to thrive personally and professionally.
